Birthday Cards and Aging

As people age they all start to think differently and relate to things differently.  When it comes to their birthdays, they will most likely receive cards that are very serious or very funny.  The content that you would find in these cards would have something to do with the person and how he/she handles life.

What I found in the cards all seemed to say something different, but yet they all said the same thing in a way.  The funny cards would all make remarks on body parts or their functions. The more serious card tends to tell you how wonderful you are.  As people age they start to think of how life affects them and what different things they can do to prevent it from it making it worse.

In the funny cards I viewed, they all deal with different age groups.  The 20 to 30 year age group are all about it’s the time of your life, celebrate, live it up, you are maturing and are more responsible, you are marking a milestone.  These cards say that you are still invincible and that nothing matters.  The 40 to 50 year age group you are basically over the hill.  These cards say that you are still young, but yet you are getting old.  The age group of 60 and older basically says that you have seen it all and did it all, you are still young at heart and you have lots of memories, but still more to come.  These cards say that you getting old and you never know how many more you will have.  As the age got older or the content referred to older people, they made more jokes about a person’s age and how they aren’t to old to do the things they used to do.  In the more serious cards, they basically said the same thing no matter what age you were.  They are always wishing you all the happiness you deserve, all the laughter and happy times in your life.  They also mention what a special or wonderful person you are or how you always brighten up everyone’s lives. These cards refer to everybody enjoying their special day.

As a person ages, the content reflects on how a person views society or about how they act out in society.  Life is too short, no matter if you are 20 or if you are 100, we all like to think we will live forever, however birthday cards give us the chance to do this.  The more people joke around with their age and how they look at the world seems to help people cope with getting older and gives them something to smile about. After all, people just like about any type of card on their birthday no matter what it might say.  With that as people grow old they make jokes and fun of each other, due to the fact that they need to have a little excitement to boost their self-esteem or blood pressure, what ever you choose.

Blog Time Assignment 2

In the prologue, one thing I learned about was structuralism and functionalism and what the difference is between them.  With structuralism, I learned about introspection and the structural elements of the human mind.  To show how the mind works they looked inward to how the five senses contribute to the mind.  With functionalism, I learned about the mental and behavioral process and how it functions.  It enables us to view our past, adjust the present, and plan our future.  It impacts me by giving me an idea of what goes on with the mind and how we can live out your life.  It is relevant by letting my mind comprehend what goes on around me.  “What are the other ways people could learn about how the mind works?” is my question.

In Chapter One, I learned more about random assignment.  With that, you assign random people to a control group and an experimental group.  In the groups you would test out something new on the experimental group, where as the control group doesn’t get the same product, they just get tested based on their natural well being.  When you have the experimental group ready you would test both groups to see what the difference is and to see if the experiment had proven true.  It impacts me if they are testing a new drug to cure a cold; they would not want to put a product out that would harm me.  It is relevant because everything new has to be tested to see what the effects are.  The question for this chapter is, “If there was no change to the experimental groups outcome and it was the same as the control groups, how would you be able to adjust the product?”

In Chapter Four, I learned about the social learning theory.  This theory is how we learn social behavior by observing and imitating and by being rewarded or punished.  As children, we watch how others act and we pick up on what they do.  If you say the wrong thing or do the wrong thing, kids pick up on this and it can affect their future. It impacts me because as a I grew up, I would watch other people and want to be like them when I was older.  It is relevant because I have learned from working with kids, how much they really pay attention to what is going on around them.  A question is, “How can you explain to people that when you have children around, they go off of what you say and what you do?”

I think the most intriguing was the social learning theory.  I chose that because I found out that what you do or how you act in front of kids leaves them with an impression, which leads me to believe that this was the most interesting chapter.  For it to be intriguing, I feel that many people don’t realize how much kids watch and imitate their every move no matter what it is.  You also have to think about it, because if you make the wrong move, a child could do the same in the future and ruin his or her life depending on what it is.

Psychology, Psychology,
To learn how the mind thinks,
The roses and metronomes,
All give us the thoughts.

Methods, Methods,
It’s how we figure things out,
Without a question,
To give us the answer,
No one will know what to guess.

Introduction

Hi, my name is Hannah Koltis; I am 17 years old and a senior at Thorp High School.  I am involved in Cheerleading, FBLA, Forensics, Band, Yearbook, and Drama.  I enjoy boating, fishing, going to the movies, swimming, and hanging out with friends and family.  I am fairly outgoing, but tend to be a little shy when meeting new people.

When it comes to how I think about things, I interpret everything differently.  If it is relating to my life, work or school I take it seriously and put my whole head into it.  If it something that is a little more laid back and not that serious, I am pretty easy going, so, I just go with the flow.

It is hard to come up with exactly how I process information.  I guess it depends if its about school, It usually takes me a few times to finally catch onto what I am doing.  I usually read stuff at least twice through to make sure I understand what I am to do.  If it pertains to meeting new people or just everyday life, I do just fine.

I think I learn best when I get to do activities hands on.  When it comes out of a book it is a little harder for me to comprehend right away.  If you describe what is going on through notes, I will catch on a little bit faster.  If it is hands on, I get to experience first hand what goes on in a project and it’s easier for me to figure out.  I will also inform you that I am a horrible test taker.  I don’t usually have a problem with my everyday work, but when it comes to a test, I blank out and do horrible.  If you have any tips for me that will help, please feel free to let me know, otherwise I will always try to do my best on my work.

I am a pretty easygoing person who gets along with everybody. I work well with others and am willing to help others who need it.  I will do just about anything that I am asked of.

Cheerleading, forensics, and drama have helped me develop confidence to stand in front of people and speak.  Being Miss Thorp and getting the opportunity to represent the city of Thorp, I have found myself required to meet and greet strangers. I was never able to do this before but I am now much more relaxed and confident in being in the public eye.

I take after my mother the most.  I like to do everything hands on and be shown how to do different things, instead of having to read the instructions a hundred times.  Sometimes we both think alike and can come up with the same type of answer to the same questions that we are asked.  We both like to work with people and come up with new ideas on how to do something.  The one thing I got from my father was creativity.  I love to do different types of crafts.  When I do them though, I like to design how I’m going to make things myself and not have someone tell me how I have to do it.
